STORM UPDATE
as of Monday, February 8, 2010, 4:41 p.m.

Plowing and Transporting of Snow Continues in Wilmington; Curbside Recycling West of I-95 Canceled for Tuesday; City Prepares for Another Winter Storm

We have several announcements this evening:

  • The plowing and transporting of snow continues this evening in Wilmington and will continue through tomorrow morning. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution tonight and on Tuesday morning as traffic increases during the morning/afternoon rush hour periods. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel. Some thru lanes into the City are still being cleared, and some on-street parking areas are not available. Travelers are advised to consider using parking garages in the Downtown District.
  • Curbside recycling, scheduled for areas west of Interstate 95 on Tuesday is canceled. An announcement will be made on Tuesday concerning the trash collection schedule for the remainder of the week.
  • Wilmington is bracing for another winter storm expected to arrive Tuesday evening and continue through Wednesday evening. We are expecting another large amount of snow. Snow accumulation could be as much as 16 inches.
  • A limited State of Emergency remains in effect throughout the City and Wilmington’s Emergency Operations Plan remains in effect. While there are no travel restrictions under this declaration and plan, the City is able to bring in additional snow removal resources without having to abide by regular City bidding procedures.
  • Citizens can tune to the City’s television station, WITN, Channel 22 on the Comcast Network or log onto the City’s website, www.WilmingtonDE.gov for updated information.
  • Citizens should call 911 for all matters of an emergency nature.
  • Citizens should call 576-3879 with any non-emergency inquiries. This phone number is answered with a recorded prompt; simply press one of the available options and you will be connected to a live operator.

We will issue further weather/travel advisories if and when conditions warrant.
