OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP
Each spring, City residents come together and participate in Wilmington’s annual ‘spring cleaning’, also known as Operation Clean Sweep.
Download the 2008 Operation Clean Sweep schedule and map.
Review the information on this page and share it with as many of your neighbors as possible; after all, we’re all in this together! Let’s take pride in our great City by doing our part to keep our neighborhoods looking their best.
Please remember to follow these important guidelines for Operation Clean Sweep:
- All streets will be swept by mechanical sweepers and hand-sweeping crews.
- Temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance to let you know when a sideof the street will be swept. So our Public Works crews can successfully clean the street, please moveyour vehicle as directed by the posted signs. If you fail to comply with posted parking restrictions, yourvehicle could be ticketed or towed at your expense.
- Streets will be cleaned on the “even” side of the street (based on home and business addresses) on Mondays and Wednesdays. Streets will be cleaned on the “odd” side of the street on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Catch basins will also be checked and/or cleaned during the street cleaning process described above.
- Operation Clean Sweep also includes special pick-ups on Saturdays to allow you and your neighbors todispose of old furniture, appliances, and trash and litter from yards, basements, alleys, garages, etc. Saturday Special Pick-ups are coordinated through your community associations; please work together with your neighbors to arrange a community-wide effort. Community groups must coordinate their participation in Saturday Special Pick-ups by calling the City’s Constituent Services Office at 576-2489 and scheduling a community-wide pick-up. Please review the Clean Sweep schedule and take note that a Saturday Special Pick-up will only take place on the Saturday of the week that your area is scheduled to be cleaned. Once scheduled, please work with your community to publicize the special pick-up date by distributing flyers and notifying all neighbors.
- Personnel from the Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services will also survey each area of the City forgraffiti and arrange for it to be removed. Before graffiti can be removed from private property, owners must sign a disclaimer holding the City free from liability for damage.
If you have questions about Operation Clean Sweep, please contact the Office of Constituent Services at (302) 576-2489 or the Public Works Operations Director at (302) 576-3076. Thank you for keeping Wilmington’s neighborhoods attractive and clean! Sponsored by the City of Wilmington and the Clean Wilmington Committee. |
