Please follow these steps:
- Download and fill out the Wilmington Department of Police Application
- Download and read the WPD Historical Background and Career Information
- Download and fill out the WPD Physical Ability Testing Release Form and Physician Authorization Form *
* The two physical forms are to be completed for testing purposes. One form needs to be signed by the applicant's doctor and the other needs to be notarized and signed by the applicant. Failure to have these forms completed will lead to elimination from the application process. Applicants must bring the medical forms to their scheduled orientation date (dates will be provided to you after your application is submitted). |
The Police Officer, with the Department of Police, performs general police work duties as authorized by law to protect life and property; prevent violation(s) of statutes and laws; investigates and suppresses disturbances; investigates complaints; makes arrests and issues summons when appropriate; does related work as required.
To perform the duties of a Wilmington Police Officer, an applicant must demonstrate good judgment, common sense, and enthusiasm for police work. A Wilmington Police Officer performs the duties such as patrol, investigation, police duties, maintenance activities, and special assignments.
