Hanifa G.N. Shabazz, a native Wilmingtonian raised on the Eastside, was educated by the Wilmington public school system and is a graduate of Wilmington High School. Hanifa has maintained a community-based professional career which has prepared her for this opportunity to serve the community.

More than 25 years ago, through the Wilmington Homestead Program of the Neighborhood House, she purchased her home in the Southbridge section of the City. Her three daughters were raised and educated in the public school system. She is very proud of her daughters, who also reside and one of whom owns a home in the 4th District with Hanifa's three grandchildren.

Council Member Shabazz has been a business owner for the past 20 years with ventures including Haneef’s Bookstore and Hanifa’s Kitchen, the publishing of the DRUMBEAT™ Newspaper and the production Haneef’s African Festival and Parade.

As the City Council Member for the 4th District, Hanifa pledges to serve all the people in the District by remaining ready and resolute in the consistent and fair representation of the entire community.

Hanifa offers the constituency of the 4th District innovative leadership and positive change. She will listen, research and mobilize the various businesses and community based organizations and individuals, thus providing them with a leadership that is driven by the consensus needs of the people and empowering them to take charge of their communities.
