As a lifelong resident of the City of Wilmington, Samuel Prado has made a steadfast commitment to enrich the lives of his fellow citizens. Prior to his election as City Councilman of the 5th District, Samuel was appointed in 2001 by Mayor James M. Baker as a Constituent Services Officer. Over the past four years, Samuel has been responsive to the needs of citizens and has addressed hundreds of varied community concerns. He has gained the requisite knowledge of municipal and intergovernmental relations to be an extremely effective force within City Council. Elected at the age of 28, Sammy also holds the distinction of being the youngest member of City Council
Samuel was previously employed by the AIG Life Insurance company in the area of customer service. He attended Salesianum Catholic High School. He is a 1999 graduate of the University of Delaware and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science.
Samuel's involvement with community affairs began when his father, Jesus M. Prado, was elected to represent the 5th District for Wilmington City Council in 1984. This legacy of commitment has continued as Samuel generously gives of his time and talents as a Board Member of the Salvation Army, Westside Health Services, and the Latin American community Center's Community Development Corporation. He has also taken an active leadership role with in the Westside Neighborhood Coalition, the civic organization that represents the City's Hilltop Neighborhood. Additionally, Samuel's genuine care and concern for the future of Wilmington's young people is evident as he spends countless hours as a youth mentor at the Latin American Community Center.
In his term, Councilman Prado seeks to address the need for new and improved law enforcement services, the declining rate of home ownership, absentee landlords, new streams of revenue for the City, beautification of streets and neighborhoods, and youth employment initiatives.
"I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve all people in the 5th District. I pledge to provide effective leadership and service so that our District can grow and prosper. Thank your for your support and God bless." |
