Wilmington Community Project Day is a day of volunteer service during which Wilmington residents are encouraged to demonstrate their community spirit by organizing activities that improve their neighborhoods in some way. Last year, more than 70 community groups, churches, businesses, schools, and other non-profit organizations came together on Community Project Day to make neighborhoods look more beautiful and make life better for people and organizations in need of assistance. Activities in 2013 included litter removal, beautification projects, landscaping maintenance, and community garden projects.

Projects could include anything from planting a tree to volunteering at one of the city’s senior centers to something unique that a community or individual would like to submit.

Residents are urged to begin planning now for April 26, 2014. The attached flyer and registration form contains additional information that is perfect for sharing among neighbors and community groups.

Applications should be mailed, faxed, or emailed to event organizers no later than Friday, April 4, 2014.

All citizens who participate in a registered project are invited to a community gathering beginning at 12:30 p.m. on April 26 at the Louis L. Redding City/County Building to celebrate the events’ collective successes.

Event organizers thank Wilmington’s Neighborhood Planning Councils, The Home Depot on Miller Road, The Kenny Family Foundation, and Veolia Water for sponsoring the 2014 Wilmington Community Project Day.
