Clifford Brown Sculpture at Kirkwood Park

Semifinalist RFP Deadline:
Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Requested by:
Clifford Brown Jazz Selection Committee

The City of Wilmington, in conjunction with the Clifford Brown Sculpture Selection Committee, is seeking artists or artist teams to participate in a competitive design process for the creation of a public sculpture. This sculpture will serve as a focal point for the residents of the Eastside of Wilmington, but more importantly anyone visiting the City of Wilmington. The sculpture will be located at Kirkwood Park in Wilmington, Delaware. This venue will provide local residents and visitors the opportunity to visit other historical sites on the Eastside, and share in the rich culture of the Clifford Brown House, Clifford Brown Park, Howard High School, and the Louis L. Redding House, to name a few.

The goal of the open selection and design process is to identify an artist or team with the skills, experience, resources, and vision to create and install a high quality piece of public art. Provided by public funds, the available budget for the sculpture is up to $125,000 inclusive of all artist/designer expenses, insurance, research, design, travel, fabrication, construction, transportation, materials, fees, and installation costs.

Eligible, completed qualifications are being evaluated by the Sculpture Selection Committee. The artists selected will be notified in writing to submit their formal proposals. Semifinalists will then prepare a proposal based upon the design criteria and deliver it to the Sculpture Committee on or before Wednesday, May 30, 2012.
