Want to live a longer, happier, and healthier life? Don’t miss the 10th Annual Wilmington Wellness Day, which will take place on Saturday, September 19 in Downtown Wilmington’s Rodney Square from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wilmington Wellness Day is an annual, family-oriented event where health care, government, businesses, faith-based groups, safety-related organizations, and the community join together to promote safe, healthy lifestyles and healthy communities through disease prevention, health awareness, early detection, education, screenings, and fun activities.
Free health screenings will be available throughout the day, include blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, stroke assessment, nutrition/body fat analysis, osteoporosis, and depression. Participants will also be able to stop by the St. Francis Hospital’s St. Clare Mobil Health Van, a traveling primary medical care clinic, as well as the “Ask the Doctor” tent. Educational and informational displays include a pharmacy assistance table, the Kick Butts Car (anti-tobacco dependence), an ambulance and paramedics demonstration, and two “Lunch and Learn” programs held inside the nearby Hotel DuPont: “Do You Have Sugar?” and “Health on the Go.”
“If we are to lead happy and healthy lives, we must take every effort possible to preserve our health,” said Mayor Baker. “Wilmington Wellness Day is an excellent, free opportunity to learn more about diseases that if unchecked can greatly reduce our quality of life. The free screenings available can literally save your life, because early detection is essential to effective treatment.”
This year’s event will also feature live entertainment by event co-sponsor WJBR radio 99.5 FM. Other entertainment includes a DJ and performances by a variety of dance groups.
Wilmington Wellness Day is co-sponsored by the City of Wilmington (Department of Parks and Recreation), Christiana Care Health Systems, 99.5 FM WJBR, and the Wilmington Health Planning Council.
