We have some news items for you as of 5:45 p.m.:
- The State of Emergency in Wilmington is cancelled by Mayor Baker as of 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
- Motorists are advised to continue to drive cautiously because of ice and compacted snow on many streets.
- Citizens are asked to pay special attention to fire hydrants as they are shoveling snow in their communities. It is important that hydrants are clear of snow and visible in case of an emergency.
- Public Works crews and private contractors, who have been working non-stop for the past three days, will curtail 24-hour around-the-clock operations at 6:00 p.m. tonight to allow for a well-deserved rest. The City will continue to monitor road conditions and will monitor the latest weather forecasts to be prepared for the possibility of another snow event on Monday.
- Citizens may report any incident involving broken water mains or other Public Works emergencies to the Public Works Department After-Hour Emergency Line at 571-4150, beginning at 6:00 p.m. tonight and through the weekend.
- The Public Works Call Center is deactivated as of 6:00 p.m. tonight.
- Citizens should call 911 as they would normally do for any type of emergency related to police, fire and ambulance services.
This will be the final advisory for the weekend from the Mayor’s Office and Office of Emergency Management.
