Wilmington firefighters on the C-Platoon were dispatched to the above address for a report of a fire on the roof of a house. First arriving unit Tower 2 reported a heavy smoke condition coming from the roof of a two-story middle-of-the-row dwelling. A female occupant of the residence was home. There were also workers performing work on the roof of the home at the time of the fire. Firefighters quickly ensured that everyone had exited the home and attacked the fire. The fire caused significant damage to the attic and roof of the home. The aggressive actions of the firefighters stopped the fire from spreading into any attached buildings. The home at 1209 Beech Street suffered minor smoke damage. The fire was declared under control at 14:28 hours.
The Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office responded to investigate the fire. It is still under investigation. The Department of Licenses & Inspections responded to assist at the scene. Delmarva Power responded and secured the electricity and gas to the home. The sole female occupant was required to relocate but did not require the assistance of the American Red Cross. There were no civilian injuries. One firefighter was transported to Wilmington Hospital for evaluation and treatment of back pain.
Thirty-six personnel responded to the fire. The following units responded: E6, E1, E5, SB2, T2, R1, B3, B7, B9, F1A, D2, D4, FM11, FM16, PA2, and NCC EMS. The Incident Commander was Battalion Chief William McKim.
