Pursued Vehicle Strikes Residence

This morning, Thursday, January 17, 2008 at approximately 9:10 a.m., Wilmington Police were involved in a vehicle pursuit that began in the area of 4th & Rodney Streets. Officers say that they stopped a maroon Saturn for an expired temporary registration and seat belt violation. Officers instructed the driver to stay in his vehicle while they checked his documents. As the officers were walking back to their car, the suspect drove away. The suspect then led the officers on a short vehicle pursuit that ended with the suspect’s vehicle running over a 10-foot parking sign and ultimately crashing into a residence on the corner of 2nd and N. Lincoln Streets. The suspect then exited his vehicle and fled on foot. He was finally apprehended in the 200 block of N. Union Street. Police notified the Department of Licenses and Inspections who responded to inspect the building.

The suspect, 41-year-old Darrell Maxion, of the unit block of Lincoln Drive in New Castle, was transported to headquarters and booked on 20 traffic charges and criminal mischief violations. He is currently awaiting arraignment on those charges. Maxion was also wanted on an outstanding Court of Common Pleas warrant.

There were no injuries in this incident.
