Get involved. Become a bike enthusiast. Get involved. Become a bike enthusiast.

The Wilmington Bicycle Advisory Committee (WBAC) was created to advise and coordinate bike-related initiatives in the city as well as advocate for bicycle transportation and recreation opportunities. WBAC welcomes bike enthusiasts of all skill levels to get involved. Committee members actively participate in events like the Wilmington Grand Prix, Bike-to-Work Day, bike surveys, bike infrastructure installation, the Bike Summit as well as supporting various local bike charity and non-profit organizations.

The strength of our committee comes from strong citizen participation. The committee also has the support of numerous City departments including Parks and Recreation, Planning, Police, Public Works, and the Office of the Mayor. Additionally, we have representation from WILMAPCO, Bike Delaware, the Delaware Bike Council, DART and DNREC – all of whom we see as partners in advancing bike initiatives.

Please contact Mike Leventry at bikewilmington@WilmingtonDE.gov for more information on getting involved and/or to receive meeting notices.

    WBAC Initiatives

    Outreach:

WBAC will again have a table at the Wilmington Grand Prix (May 18th) – feel free to drop by. We also have had member representation at every Delaware Bike Summit and plan to continue supporting this tremendous informational resource event.

    Brandywine to Christina Trail Connector:

DNREC Secretary Collin O'Mara has declared that connecting the Brandywine and Christina waterfront trail systems is a priority. WBAC is on board coordinating with WILMAPCO, DNREC, DELDOT and Bike Delaware to support planning and development.

    Adams Street Connector Study:

The WBAC is constantly looking for innovative opportunities to develop the commuter bike system network in Wilmington. Recently our committee developed a proposal to study the use of the Adams Street corridor and I-95 right-of-way for development of a potential grade separated cycle track bike route.

    Pedal Perks:

The concept Pedal Perks program is designed to seek out bike friendly businesses that are willing to offer incentives to bicyclists that ride to their establishments. It is meant to incentivize biking while supporting the local economy. More information will follow as the program is developed.

    Circuit Rides:

This unique program is being spearheaded by Dave Dooley our DART representative. This program is modeled after similar community rides that occur frequently in Europe. The concept involves meeting up with like-minded bicyclists and riding as a group in a roving fashion to different locations in and around Wilmington. More information will follow as the program is developed.

    Bike Parking and Sharrows:

WBAC has been coordinating and assisting the Department of Public Works to determine logical and safe locations for bike parking (racks) throughout the city. Additionally, two test sharrows were installed on Market Street last year with more sharrows to follow in late spring. If you are aware of a location that is in need of bike parking, please contact Mike Leventry at mleventry@WilmingtonDE.gov.
