City Residency Requirement
The City of Wilmington requires that all new employees are to establish City residency within six months of their date of hire and to continue their residency within the City limits for five years.
COMPLIANCE FOR NEWLY HIRED EMPLOYEES
All newly hired employees are sent an Offer of Employment letter, which informs the selected candidate that City residency is an employment qualification and requirement. This notification provides details on the State law, City Charter and Code sections, and the documents required to verify residency.
New employees declaring City residency upon hire are to provide the necessary documents at the Department of Human Resources orientation.
New employees who do not provide proof of residency upon hire are required to provide the necessary documentation prior to the six-month limit. An extension may be requested per ruling by the Residency Review Board. Those who fail to provide the necessary documentation shall be scheduled for a hearing before the board.
