The Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra from Macao, China, makes its debut performance in the United States in 2013 under an official invitation from Mayor Dennis P. Williams, and by the generous support from the Secretary for Social & Cultural Affairs, Macao Foundation, Cultural Institute, Directory for Education & Youth Affairs and Henry Fok Foundation of the Macao SAR Government, China, Mr. Liu Chak Wan , Mr. Francisco Ho and Organization of Chinese American Women. This Youth Orchestra strives to keep its initial objectives in providing musical training and performing opportunities for local youth, as well as a platform for young people to share their musical and personal experiences. Additionally, MYSO works to enhance the growth of school-aged children’s music appreciation and performance.
Since the performance of Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony in the year of its inception in 1997, and subsequently to the performance of Johannes Brahms’s No.1 Serenade in D Major in 2010, students have gained extraordinary progress and valuable experiences. Many of them have decided to develop a professional career in music. Marking a monumental page in history, MYSO completed its Australia and Singapore tour in 2007, and was chosen to participate in the 8th World Choral Festival at Vienna & Salzburg, performing at the Wiener Musikverein and the Salzburger Mozarteum in 2008. Also the Orchestra had visited Lisbon, Berlin, Italy, Prague, Japan, United States, Thailand, Taiwan and mainland China. Participating at the Young Euro Classic in Berlin, as well as Riva del Garda in Italy and the Festival ao Largo in Lisbon, the MYSO made its second triumphant concert tour of Europe in 2010. Meanwhile the Orchestra members had remarkable experiences in sharing their music stands, on formal concert performance, with the Portugal National Symphony Orchestra, Flemish Royal Philharmonic, Prague Philharmonic, Bundesjugendorchester Germany and Symphony Orchestra of the Mexico State.
