City Holiday: City's Observance of Veterans Day

  • Date: 10/23/2017

Wilmington City government offices will be closed on Monday, October 23, 2017, for the City’s early observance of Veterans Day. As a result, the Department of Public Works’ Sanitation Division will collect recyclables on a modified holiday schedule:

  • Monday, October 23: No collection of recyclables (including leaves and yard waste)
  • Tuesday, October 24: East of I-95 recycling collection
  • Wednesday, October 25: West of I-95 recycling collection

Trash collection will continue as regularly scheduled on Thursday, October 26 for areas east of I-95 and on Friday, October 27 for areas west of I-95. Sanitation crews will resume their scheduled leaf and yard waste collections on Tuesday, October 24.

Wilmington observes Veteran’s Day in October because the City’s unions negotiated an additional holiday in October at least 20 years ago. When other governments observe the traditional Veteran’s Day on Friday, November 10, City offices will be open for business.

Visit www.WilmingtonDE.gov/residents/keeping-wilmington-clean/trash-collection for more information about trash and recycling in the City.
