VACANCY: Department of Parks and Recreation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreation or a closely related field, with three years related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

REQUIREMENT(S): Must pass a criminal background investigation, pre-employment physical, and drug test. Possession and maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED: Help drive the departments initiative to go paperless (help to establish or identify a digital platform that can be used to streamline processes online); Create databases to collect program evaluation data; Build recreation capacity by planning and implement new programs; Develop new community partnerships; Design recreation and sports programs that serve families, youth, and identified groups (i.e. disabled, elderly, troubled youth, etc.); Support recreation and sports programs including leagues, tournaments, camps, and clinics; Conducts research in preparation of programs; Monitor program budgets, evaluates programs; Recruits and contributes to the hiring process for temporary staff.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED (Illustrative Only): Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources. Plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments. Trains, motivates, evaluates assigned staff and process payroll. Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long-range plans. Attend departmental and community meetings and submit weekly reports. Gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports, and recommendations. Coordinates department activities with other departments and agencies as needed. Assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow. Oversee the operations of the new athletic field; Develop adult tennis and pickle ball program; Develop therapeutic programs for seniors; Create special events (non-traditional) for the 18-35 age group; Assist with the marketing and promotion of a NEW brand for Recreation programs. Provide coordination and supervision of the Evening Parks program. Transport and set up athletic equipment to various recreation locations. Performs all related work as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge and experience in public relations. Considerable experience in the management of recreational and leisure programs, special events planning, and grant writing. Considerable knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive community events program. Experience in budget management and grant writing. Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a special events program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, contractors, participants, and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Knowledge and experience using Microsoft products.

RESIDENCY: City residency required within six months of employment.
