Post Date:09/11/2018 12:00 PM

The event that promotes healthy lifestyles is now in its 16th year

Mayor Mike Purzycki and Parks and Recreation Director Kevin F. Kelley, Sr. today joined with the Wilmington Health Planning Council (WHPC) and Healthy Wilmington 2020 to invite citizens to attend the 16th annual Wilmington Wellness Day, on Saturday, September 15, 2018, from Noon to 3 p.m. at Herman Holloway, Sr. Park, at 400 East Seventh Street. The WHPC’s signature event, formerly held in Rodney Square, is moving to East Side Wilmington this year after being staged in West Center City for the first time last year.

Wilmington Wellness Day is a fun, family-oriented event during which healthcare groups, safety-related organizations and businesses join with members of the community to promote safe, healthy lifestyles.  With the theme of “Living Well in the City,” the focus of this year’s event will be on promoting healthy kids and adults within their community.

Over thirty organizations will offer interactive activities such as blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, dental and eye health screenings, and rapid HIV testing from Noon until 2:30 p.m. for individuals ages 13 and older with a valid photo ID. There will also be health workshops, and a FREE backpack giveaway and a raffle for two bikes. In addition, the event will feature DJ music, line dancing, face painting and free lunch.

In the event of rain, the event will be held at the People’s Settlement Association at 408 East 8th Street.

In addition to the WHPC and Healthy Wilmington 2020, this year’s sponsors include the Mayor’s Office, the Wilmington Department of Parks and Recreation, Christiana Care Health System, St. Francis Healthcare, Peace Week Delaware, the Kenny Family Foundation, and the YWCA.
