Wilmington’s Department of Public Works announced today that the City’s 2019 Street Sweeping Program will begin on Monday, April 1 and continue through Friday, November 1. The City’s street cleaning service involves specialized vehicles that wash and sweep designated streets on scheduled days and times. Residents who live on blocks that participate in the street cleaning program will see specially designated signage indicating when vehicles have to be moved to accommodate the street sweeping machines.

Public Works Commissioner Kelly Williams reminds residents to pay careful attention to the days and times of the street cleaning schedule on their block, and to remind any visitors to their homes about the restrictions. Williams said all motorists—even those with residential parking permits—must observe the posted parking restrictions for street cleaning.

Williams also said that street cleaning crews occasionally return to a neighborhood for further cleaning during the posted restricted parking period, so residents are urged not to return to their regular parking area until the designated street cleaning time window has expired.

For more information on the City’s Street Sweeping Program, please contact the Public Works Call Center at (302) 576-3878. Customer service representatives are available Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
