Wilmington Has Free Fans Available for Senior Citizens
City residents who are 65 and older, and haven’t received a fan in the past year, are eligible for this program
Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki and Constituent Services Director Jennifer Prado announced today that FREE electric fans are available for older Wilmington residents to help them cope with the summer season’s higher temperatures. To receive a free fan, citizens should contact Wilmington’s Office of Constituent Services at 302.576.2489, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A person must be at least 65 years old and live within the City limits to be eligible. Proof of age and residency are required. If a person has received a fan from the Constituent Services Office in the past year, they are not eligible for the program. Fans were purchased from Home Depot, 3600 Miller Road, which gave the City a 10% discount.
“The temperatures are climbing and it’s important to remember how dangerous the summer heat can be, particularly older citizens,” said Mayor Purzycki. “While these fans will help older City residents cope with the heat and humidity, I ask you to check on your family members and others who live in your neighborhood, especially if they are older. We all have to look out for each other.”
Jennifer Prado also reminded citizens that the Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services is available throughout the year to assist all citizens with community resources they might need.
