Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki, City Cultural Affairs Director Tina Betz, and Jerry DuPhily of Out & About Magazine invite City residents and citizens around the region to Art Loop Wilmington on Friday, July 12. The popular FREE art exhibition, now in its 31st year, is a partnership between the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and Out & About.

A total of eleven galleries in and around Wilmington will participate in this month’s Art Loop, which is opening a week later due to the Independence Day holiday. The Redding Gallery returns to the Loop this month and will continue to feature three paintings by The Delaware Contemporary studio artist Jenna Lucente through July 25. The Redding Gallery, at 800 North French Street, will be open on Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and light refreshments will be served.

At the Carvel State Office Building’s Mezzanine Gallery, located on the second floor of 820 North French Street, an exhibition of paintings and photographs by Middletown artist Katie Lillard entitled One will be on view from now through July 26, 2019. The artist will host a free opening reception on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Lillard, trained in painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, explores procreation and the female experience of childbearing through multi-media sculpture, film, and installation. A mother herself, Lillard balances time in the studio with raising her child and working as a high school art teacher in Centreville, Maryland. Her work, which has always been rooted in the human life cycle, looks specifically to motherhood for clues to our interconnectivity as a civilization and species.

The Mezzanine Gallery, open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., regularly presents solo exhibitions of work by local artists during each month’s Art Loop, focusing on a full range of disciplines including painting, photography, sculpture, crafts, folk and media arts.

In addition to the Redding and Mezzanine galleries, other featured galleries in the month of July include Gallery 919 and The Grand Opera House.

Gallery 919, at 919 North Market Street, is proud to present Potpourri of Memories, an exhibit works by Winthrop Hewitt Buswell done in watercolor, pastel and mixed media.

The Grand Opera House, at 818 North Market Street, will present two separate shows this month. Claymont-based DANCE4LIFE School of the Arts &Training Institute, known for exceptional dance education and riveting dance concerts, returns to the Grand’s main stage for their third artistic showing with Art on the Town, entitled Royalty in Motion. At the Baby Grand, Michael Anthony Gustavo Silva will be the featured artist. His The Silva Collection includes a multitude of mediums such as oil paint, acrylic paint, carving, wood burning, graphic design, and installation. From animals to humans and floral, Gustavo Silva paints a wide range of subjects, applying a traditional yet modern approach with meticulous detail.

There are no Art Loop Shuttles in July or August; the FREE round-trip shuttle service will return to the Loop in September.

The Wilmington Art Loop is a self-guided exhibition of visual art displayed at galleries, studios, museums and alternative spaces in and around Wilmington. The FREE event draws local and regional art lovers to the Downtown District and greater Wilmington area on the first Friday of the month with the exception of Independence Day Weekend in July. Many venues offer opportunities to meet the featured artists while patrons enjoy refreshments, and, in some cases, live entertainment is scheduled. Out & About has teamed up with Breakthru Beverage to present complimentary beer, wine or spirit tastings at three Loop venues that rotate each month.

Art Loop Wilmington’s website – a hand-held guide to the Loop that is easily navigable by gallery location, artist or type of venue – is mobile friendly and features the monthly lineup at least two weeks prior to the start of each Art Loop. The site can be accessed atwww.artloopwilmington.org.  People can also join the conversation on social media by using #ArtLoopWilm or visit the Facebook Page. The August Art Loop will take place on Friday, August 2.
