Mayor Purzycki and Gable Music Ventures Invite Citizens to the Annual Ladybug Music Festival on July 18-19
The nation’s largest female-fronted music festival is now in its 8th year
Mayor Mike Purzycki today joined Gayle Dillman and Jeremy Hebbel of Gable Music Ventures in encouraging music lovers from Wilmington and around the country to celebrate women in music at the annual Ladybug Music Festival in Downtown Wilmington. The FREE two-day festival, presented by Chase with support from the City of Wilmington and other sponsors, will take place on Thursday, July 18 and Friday, July 19 and will feature more than 100 emerging and established female artists.
Thursday evening will feature the Ladybug Block Party as it returns to LOMA (North Market Street between 2nd and 4th streets) with food trucks, beverage stations, arts and craft vendors and performances by Jessica Latshaw, Angela Sheik, Joy Ike, Megan Knight, Victoria Watts, Hot Breakfast and dozens more. The Ladybugs of Soul band, featuring Stacia LaChole, An LeTreece, Frantastic Noise, LADYY and Harlei Congo, will cap off the night on the main stage with a tribute to Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan and other iconic women artists.
Friday night will feature the Festival’s first-ever “Bug Crawl” with performances from Nalani & Sarina, Hoochi Coochi, Ginger Coyle, and Sweet Leda among many others. Over 60 artists will perform at 15 venues along Wilmington’s North Market Street business district and other nearby locations. Starting time for performances on Thursday is 4:00 p.m., while Friday night sets start at 5:00 p.m. You can view the complete list of performers and schedule by accessingwww.theladybugfestival.com.
“We couldn’t be more proud to play host to the country’s largest celebration of women in music,” said Mayor Purzycki. “Gayle and Jeremy and everyone at Gable Music have worked incredibly hard to grow this festival over the years, and I look forward to seeing thousands of people once again come together in downtown Wilmington for two nights of fantastic entertainment and fine dining.”
The 2019 Ladybug Festival will again be presented by JPMorgan Chase. “We at Chase are excited to be the presenting sponsor for Wilmington’s Ladybug Festival for the third year in a row,” said Don Mell, JPMorgan Chase’s Delaware Market Site Manager. “The festival celebrates the diversity that downtown Wilmington offers its citizens. We are especially proud of how much Ladybug, the largest all-female music event in the nation, showcases the impact women have in the entertainment world.”
The Ladybug Festival was co-created by Gayle Dillman and Jeremy Hebbel of Gable Music Ventures as a response to the lack of representation of female artists on festival stages in the region and across the country. The first Ladybug Festival was attended by an audience of approximately 300. Since then, the festival has witnessed tremendous growth, greeting more than 7,000 attendees last year in downtown Wilmington. Ladybug has staged hundreds of solo artists and bands, including emerging and established women artists, including such notables as Nalani & Sarina, Caroline Rose, Larkin Poe, Lauren Ruth Ward, and Grammy-nominated Mary Lambert.
Over the past two years, approximately 70 percent of the festival event staff was also female, including sound engineers and stage managers. And, for the second year in a row, the Ladybug Festival is expanding to downtown Milford, Delaware, on September 21.
