Post Date:08/22/2019 12:30 PM

As the summer festival season begins to wind down, Mayor Purzycki reminds everyone that one of our area's most popular culinary events – the Delaware Burger Battle, now in its 8th year – moves to its new home in Rockford Park this Saturday, August 24. Details about the event, which benefits the Food Bank of Delaware and the ProStart Program of the Delaware Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, can be found in the release below.

2019 Delaware Burger Battle: The Rumble in Rockford
After record-breaking 2018, the battleground moves to Rockford Park
Hot grills, battle in the city, back of my bun getting griddled and pretty.
Forks down, ain’t gonna need’em, just a couple bucks is your burger per diem.
All around, people breathing sweet scents,
Walking in Rockford Park, staring down the meat sweats.
At this fight, it's a different world. Good cause, it’s a burger whirl.
C’mon, c’mon, and eat all day, despite the heat it'll be OK.
And babe, don't you know it's a pity, that ev’ry day, can't be like this day,
At this battle, in the city … At this battle, in the city …
The 8th annual Delaware Burger Battle caps off this summer in the city as the event moves to the gorgeous grounds of Rockford Park on Saturday, Aug. 24, the Saturday before Labor Day weekend. Delaware’s fiercest chefs will put their burgers on the line for judges and guests as they compete for fame and glory in three categories: Critic’s Choice, Alternative Burger and People’s Choice.
Confirmed restaurants include newcomers Grain Craft Bar & Kitchen, The Green Stinger, The Queen, UDairy Creamery Market, and Uncle John's BBQ Stand, returning trophy winners Chelsea Tavern, Home Grown Cafe, Maiale Deli and Salumeria and RedFire Grill + Steakhouse, as well as challengers 2FatGuys American Grill, Ernest & Scott Taproom, Farmer & the Cow, Lefty’s Alley & Eats, Metro Pub & Grill and Ted’s Montana Grill.
Proceeds from this all-volunteer-run event will benefit two Delaware nonprofits: the Food Bank of Delaware, which provides nutritious foods to Delawareans in need and facilitates long-term solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty through community education and advocacy; and the ProStart Program of the Delaware Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, which gives high school students real-life experience as it teaches culinary and management skills needed for a career in the restaurant and food service industry.
The 2018 Delaware Burger Battle broke attendance records, raised more than $18,000 for its beneficiaries and was voted the 2018 “Best Fundraising Festival” by readers of Delaware Today. Delaware Food Battles have raised more than $68,000 for Delaware nonprofits over the past seven years.
Past attendees rave in their Facebook Reviews:

What can I say. Some of the best restaurants offering their best burgers and cold beer and drinks flowing. What a great time and for charity. Best event all summer. Five stars.”
“Amazing event! Great food, great fun, total blast!”
If you love burgers, the Delaware Burger Battle is for you. All of the region's best burgers all in one place, for one reasonable price, and in support of two great charities. What's not to love?
