Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki, City Cultural Affairs Director Tina Betz, and Jerry DuPhily of Out & About Magazine invite City residents and citizens around the region to Art Loop Wilmington onFriday, September 6. The popular FREE art exhibition, now in its 31st year, is a partnership between the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and Out & About. More than 30 galleries in and around Wilmington will participate in this month’s Art Loop.

The Redding Gallery this month will continue to feature minimalist abstract paintings by The Delaware Contemporary studio artist Seonglan Kim Boyce. The artist will participate in a FREE meet and greet reception on Friday, September 6 at The Redding Gallery, at 800 North French Street, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be served thanks to a donation by the Kenny Family Foundation, the non-profit partner of Kenny Family ShopRite stores.

Emerging from the cool blue, gray and white terrain of Kim Boyce's canvasses are sharp-edged rectangles that punctuate the surface with bold and warm tones of red, yellow and orange. Her highly geometric demarcations of space reveal Boyce's minimalist but playful sensibilities with her relationship to color and space.

At the Carvel State Office Building’s Mezzanine Gallery, located on the second floor of 820 North French Street, will present a selection of new figurative work by sculptor Olga Nielsen entitled “Human Connection.” The artist will host a FREE opening reception on Friday, September 6, from 5-7 p.m. Nielsen will present quick sketching sessions with a live model who will pose for short sketches during the opening reception. Visitors are invited to bring their sketchbooks and pencils.

The Mezzanine Gallery, open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., regularly presents solo exhibitions of work by local artists during each month’s Art Loop, focusing on a full range of disciplines including painting, photography, sculpture, crafts, folk and media arts.

In addition to the Redding and Mezzanine galleries, other featured galleries in the month of September include MKT Place Gallery and the Christina Cultural Arts Center.

MKT Place Gallery, at 200 West Ninth Street, presents “Arte Realista,” an exhibit of realistic local scenes by Puerto Rican-born artist Ampara Rivera, now a Delaware resident. Rivera enjoys capturing realistic scenes of places she loves, and where she has traveled. Watercolor is her master medium. Says Rivera of her work, “It is the immediacy of the paint and the way the pigment responds on your substrate to your personal emotional response to your subject. There can be no hesitancy while you are painting so you must decide where you will place each brushstroke of color and then let it do its magic. Certain colors do things with other colors allowing many things to form on both dry and wet surfaces that you just can't explain. It is only after a great number of years that you start to begin to understand many of its fine qualities as it hits the paper and bounces back through the pigment giving the ability it beautifies while unleashing the joy of the brushwork, color, and emotion landing the visual empowerment to one’s eye!”

The Christina Cultural Arts Center, at 705-707 North Market Street, will present “Anywhere Is Here” by Tracey Landmann, an artist who paints not only what she sees, but all she perceives. The sights, smells, sounds, indeed the overall ambiance of landscapes vary according to their physical and cultural placement in the world. Different regions take on different lives; no life is truly still. Tracey's goal is to relate the world's diverse animation through the colorful vocabulary of oil paint. She will attend a FREE reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 6.

Attendees are reminded that the FREE round-trip Art Loop Shuttle returns to service this month. Patrons are encouraged to take advantage of the two shuttles, which leave the parking lot of The Delaware Contemporary, located at 200 South Madison Street, at 5:45 p.m. The shuttles provide round-trip transportation to either Downtown Art Loop venues or locations in Trolley Square and venues north of Downtown and are a convenient way to meet other art lovers. Shuttle drivers will be on-hand at The Contemporary to answer questions and help art enthusiasts navigate the many offerings of Art Loop Wilmington. Reservations are not required.

The Wilmington Art Loop is a self-guided exhibition of visual art displayed at galleries, studios, museums and alternative spaces in and around Wilmington. The FREE event draws local and regional art lovers to the Downtown District and greater Wilmington area on the first Friday of the month with the exception of Independence Day Weekend in July. Many venues offer opportunities to meet the featured artists while patrons enjoy refreshments, and, in some cases, live entertainment is scheduled. Out & About has teamed up with Breakthru Beverage to present complimentary beer, wine or spirit tastings at three Loop venues that rotate each month.

Art Loop Wilmington’s website – a hand-held guide to the Loop that is easily navigable by gallery location, artist or type of venue – is mobile friendly and features the monthly lineup at least two weeks prior to the start of each Art Loop. The site can be accessed at www.artloopwilmington.org.  People can also join the conversation on social media by using #ArtLoopWilm or visit the Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/events/2129418430689932/. The next Art Loop will take place on Friday, October 4.
