City Announces Options for Disposing of Christmas Trees
Wilmington partners with Delaware Center for Horticulture for a “TreeCycle” event this Saturday; City will haul away trees on recycle collection days in January and collect trees Citywide on January 11
Wilmington residents have a few options in the new year when it comes to discarding their Christmas trees:
- You can take your tree to the Delaware Center for Horticulture (DCH) parking lot at 1810 North DuPont Street this Saturday (January 4) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where the tree will be shredded into mulch by the City’s Public Works Department. You are welcome to take your mulched tree with you for use in your garden. The City is proud to partner with the DCH on this first-ever Tree Cycle event in Wilmington!
- Beginning Monday, January 9 through Friday, January 31, 2020, the Public Works Department will collect discarded Christmas trees left at the curb on your regular recycling collection day only. For next week, recycle collection is on Monday, East of Interstate 95 and Tuesday, West of I-95. Beginning January 13, recycle collection days will switch to Thursday, east of I-95 and Friday, west of I-95. Residents must place their trees at the curb for collection minus any decorations, lights or tree stands. No artificial trees will be collected. Trees must be brought to the curb between 6 p.m. the day before collection and 4 a.m. the day of collection.
- If those first two options don’t work for you, Wilmington will hold a Citywide tree collection event on Saturday, January 11. Again, residents must place their trees at the curb for collection minus any decorations, lights or tree stands. No artificial trees will be collected. Trees must be brought to the curb between 6 p.m. the day before collection and 4 a.m. the day of collection.
