City Announces Weeklong Closure of 1700 Block of Delaware Avenue for Railroad Bridge Work
Motorists in Wilmington are advised that the 1700 block of Delaware Avenue in Forty Acres near Trolley Square will be closed daily for one week beginning Monday, May 11. This one-block stretch of Delaware Avenue between North DuPont and North Scott streets will close each day at 8 a.m. and reopen at 5 p.m. It is being closed to allow for extensive work on the overhead railroad bridge, including sanding and repainting.
The sidewalk on one side of the block will remain open to pedestrian traffic for the duration of the project. Businesses in this area of Delaware Avenue will be open and will continue their normal operations throughout the week. Motorists should avoid this one block closure. Detour signage will be posted.
As part of this same project in the coming weeks, other area bridge overpasses will be repainted, including the span at Pennsylvania Avenue and North Union Street, at North Scott Street and West 14th Street, and at Augustine Cutoff and Lovering Avenue.
The City’s website contains a real-time map that is updated daily so you can follow any changes to the scheduled closures. To access the map, follow this link: http://wilmingtonde.maps.arcgis.com/apps/
