The festival will be held August 4 through 8 at the newly renovated Rodney Square; vaccines are available August 4, 5, 6 and 7

Mayor Mike Purzycki and City Cultural Affairs Director Tina Betz announced today that the 34^th Annual Clifford Brown Jazz Festival – Wilmington’s premier music event and the largest free jazz festival on the East Coast – will offer FREE COVID-19 vaccinations in partnership with the State of Delaware’s Division of Public Health on the first four days of the five-day event – Wednesday, August 4; Thursday, August 5; Friday, August 6; and Saturday, August 7. Vaccines will be administered Wednesday through Friday between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., and on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on a first come, first-served basis.
 
Medically trained Division of Public Health staff and Delaware National Guard members will offer festivalgoers the Pfizer vaccine (age 12 and over), and the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine to anyone 18 years of age and older. Those receiving the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine will have their second dose scheduled at a Division of Public Health clinic.
 
Mayor Purzycki today thanked the Delaware Division of Public Health and the Delaware National Guard for collaborating with the City to make the COVID-19 vaccine more available.
 
“The virus is still a concern,” said the Mayor, “especially with the rise of the deadly Delta variant. Still, as more and more people get vaccinated – something that I urge every eligible individual to do as soon as possible – we can keep scheduling larger, in-person gatherings such as the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival. The City will offer free COVID-19 vaccinations at as many events as possible throughout the summer to help put this pandemic behind us once and for all.” Mayor Purzycki also asked residents to continue to get tested for the virus and follow other common sense safety precautions.

The Clifford Brown Jazz Festival is an annual tribute to Wilmington’s own Clifford Brown, and it is returning to the City’s main public square after being staged as a virtual event last year due to the pandemic. The festival’s main stage concerts in the newly renovated Rodney Square will be held on Wednesday, August 4 through Sunday, August 8, with performances starting at 5:30 p.m. on the weekdays, at noon on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Whatever COVID-19 restrictions are in place at the time of the festival will be followed.
