The Next Wilmington Art Loop Opens Friday, September 5, 2025

Wilmington Mayor John Carney, City Cultural Affairs Director Tina Betz, and Jerry duPhily of Out & About Magazine invite City residents and art lovers from around the region to Art Loop Wilmington of 2025 tomorrow, Friday, September 5th. The popular FREE art exhibition, now in its 38th year, is a partnership between the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and Out & About. Galleries in and around Wilmington will participate in this month’s Art Loop. A complete list can be found here.

Patrons are encouraged to take advantage of the Art Loop shuttle provided by the City of Wilmington Parks & Recreation Department. The shuttle will leave the parking lot of The Delaware Contemporary, located at 200 South Madison Street, at 5:45 p.m. In addition to the featured venues, shuttle riders vote for their choice of galleries to visit.

Exhibition: New Works from Our Veterans

Eleven veterans will exhibit work completed at the Delaware Art Museum instructed by artist and teacher Jane Quartarone from September 5th to October 30th at the new MANE Gallery. Come support our veterans and new perspectives in a variety of mediums. Opening reception from 5pm to 8pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Exhibition: Artist of Life by Geraldo “The King of Transit” Gonzalez

Geraldo Gonzalez invites us to look through his eyes into a kaleidoscopic, utopian world where good triumphs over evil and public transportation reigns supreme. A passionate transit enthusiast, the majority of Geraldo’s artworks concern the public transportation systems of the greater Delaware Valley, highlighting them with bright swathes of pattern and color. His daily experiences with public transportation are depicted with radiating color, bathing his compositions in rainbow light. In Sensing Justice with Geraldo Gonzalez, this utopian transit imagery is interwoven with multifaceted self-portraits that possess similar moralizing and expressive power.

Exhibition: Metamorphosis by Caroline Stoughton

Caroline Stoughton paints to recapture the feelings of positivity and confidence, like those that she experienced while her grandmother was still alive. Her paintings, which feature highly pigmented colors and subjects drawn from nature, explore how we can be reminded of these loving feelings, even without a specific memory.

Based in Philadelphia and Los Angeles, Stoughton received a B.F.A. in Painting from Tyler School of Art. Her unwavering commitment to color earned her the Richard Cramer Color Award in 2020. Her paintings can be found in private collections throughout the United States and in Rome, Italy.

The artist and writer, Diane Lane, is a self-taught watercolor artist who has been taking classes and making artsy messes and creating stories for many years. She's painted in France and Italy and works in paper art and miniatures. As a writer, she is a member of the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild, and has written and published three books, "I Loved Her Enough," "Marmalade: The Rain, The Flood, The Rescue," and her newest book, "Moon uy," illustrated in her watercolors.

This collection celebrates the power of color to evoke memory, mood, and the unseen.

About: “Ameriica Has A Problem” is the ONLY art exhibit ever dedicated to Beyoncé Knowles Carter, a visual celebration of one of the most iconic cultural forces of our time — Queen Bey. This exhibition pays tribute to her legacy, power, and evolving artistry through the eyes of visual art and music who channels her influence into bold, expressive works. Patrons are reminded that the Art Loop shuttle will leave the parking lot of The Delaware Contemporary, located at 200 South Madison Street, at 5:45 p.m. The shuttle provides round-trip transportation to Art Loop venues until 8:30 p.m. and is a convenient way to meet other art lovers. The shuttle driver can answer questions and help art enthusiasts navigate the many offerings of Art Loop Wilmington. Reservations are NOT required.

The Wilmington Art Loop is a self-guided exhibition of visual art displayed at galleries, studios, museums, and alternative spaces in and around Wilmington. The FREE event draws local and regional art lovers to the Downtown District and greater Wilmington area on the first Friday of the month except for Independence Day Weekend in July. Many venues offer opportunities to meet the featured artists while patrons enjoy refreshments, and, in some cases, live entertainment is scheduled.

Art Loop Wilmington’s website – a hand-held guide to the Loop that is easily navigable by gallery location, artist, or type of venue – is mobile friendly and is updated with the monthly lineup the week of each Art Loop. The site can be accessed atwww.artloopwilmington.org. People can also join the conversation on social media by using #ArtLoopWilm or visit the Facebook Page. The next Art Loop will take place on Friday, October 3, 2025.
