WILMINGTON — Mayor John Carney and Wilmington City Council announced that the next round of the City’s Home Repair Lottery will take place on Wednesday, December 17, at 11:00 a.m. The drawing will be broadcast live on WITN TV (Channel 22 on Comcast) and online at www.witn22.org [wilmingtonde.us9.list-manage.com].
The lottery allows eligible Wilmington homeowners to receive city-funded repairs for essential issues such as roofing, plumbing, electrical, and safety-related needs. To be eligible, applicants must be at or below 100% area median income (AMI), be a homeowner in the City, and the home must be owner-occupied.
“Every home repaired is a neighbor supported, a block strengthened, and a piece of our city preserved,” said Mayor John Carney. “The Senior Home Repair Program has made a real difference in the lives of our older residents, and we’re excited to extend this opportunity to every Wilmington homeowner.”
“Wilmington’s families deserve to live in safe, stable, and dignified homes, and today’s announcement moves us one step closer to that reality,” said City Council President Trippi Congo. “Expanding this home repair lottery beyond seniors ensures that every eligible homeowner has a fair chance at receiving the help they need. This is how we strengthen neighborhoods: by investing in our residents, restoring hope, and showing our community that we stand with them as partners in their future.”
“This initiative reflects what Wilmington does best, lifting up our neighbors and making sure no one is left behind,” said Councilwoman At-Large Maria D. Cabrera. “By opening this home repair assistance to all eligible homeowners, we are widening the circle of opportunity and ensuring that more families can remain safe and secure in the homes they love. Strong communities are built on compassion, accessibility, and equity, and this program embodies each of those values. I’m proud to support it and the residents it will empower.”
Registration will be open now through December 12. Wilmington residents can register by calling 311 or by visiting www.wilmingtonde.gov/residents/311 [wilmingtonde.us9.list-manage.com]. This process ensures equity, as the lottery is NOT first-come, first-served, giving everyone who registers an equal chance to be selected.
