WILMINGTON – Mayor Carney and Chief Looney announced today that the Wilmington Fire Department (WFD) has opened applications for the 45th Recruit Academy, inviting service-minded members of the community to pursue a career in public safety.
“The Wilmington Fire Department plays a critical role in keeping our neighborhoods safe,” said Mayor Carney. “I encourage all interested applicants to join WFD in their dedicated service to our City.”
“A career with the Wilmington Fire Department is an extraordinary rewarding opportunity in public service,” said Chief Looney. “It takes a special individual who is willing to risk their life to protect and serve the community. Few professions are as challenging, meaningful, or fulfilling as becoming a Wilmington firefighter. The 45th Recruit Academy will seek candidates who demonstrate integrity, courage, professionalism, and a commitment to serving the residents and visitors of the City of Wilmington.”
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, a U.S. citizen, and must possess a valid driver’s license, high school diploma or GED, and good moral character. The recruitment process entails physical agility testing, a written test, oral interviews, medical testing, drug screening, and a background investigation. There is no city residency requirement for employment with WFD.
