Play Streets Wilmington - July 21, 2022 at 24th & N. Heald Streets

Our third Play Streets event of the summer was held on July 21st at 24th & N. Heald Streets. Over 45 community members came out to enjoy fun activities and water ice. The major activities featured were basketball, badminton, an inflatable game with the Delaware Blue Coats and golf with First Tee of Delaware. We also brought cornhole, hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, double Dutch and jump ropes to the community. Our special event was a hula hooping contest where the kids faced off against the Delaware Blue Coats staff and volunteers to see who could hula hoop the longest and who could get the most creative in their hooping style.

Thank you to DJ Tim Dogg, Alyson Lang from the Delaware Tobacco Prevention and Control Program, and Pastor Sandra Ben for all their help in making this event a success!

Huge thank you to Sam from the Parks and Recreation Maintenance Division for facilitating the transportation, set-up, and clean-up of the recreation equipment.

Thank you to the ChristianaCare Health Guide for aiding one of our fearless leaders, Rysheema, when she hurt her ankle while showing off her double Dutch skills.

Special thanks to East Lake Village for letting us use their facility grounds so the kids were able to have some extra space to play.

Some other event highlights:
• The community enjoyed refreshing water ice to beat the heat wave.
• 10 medals were given to star hula hoopers.
• Golf with First Tee of Delaware was a hit.
• Staff engaged with the kids in hula hooping and jumping rope.
• Community Ambassador of Basketball at Delaware Blue Coats, Joe Richmond, brought extra energy to the hula hooping contests. Joe was supported by the Delaware Blue Coats staff.
