ABOUT BIKE WILMINGTON
The Wilmington Bicycle Advisory Committee (WBAC), also known as Bike Wilmington, was created to advise and coordinate bike-related initiatives in the city as well as advocate for bicycle transportation and recreation opportunities.
Bike Wilmington welcomes bike enthusiasts of all skill levels to get involved. Committee members actively participate in events like the Wilmington Grand Prix, Bike-to-Work Day, bike surveys, bike infrastructure installation, the Bike Summit as well as supporting various local bike charities and non-profit organizations.
The strength of the committee comes from strong citizen participation. The committee also has the support of numerous City departments including Parks and Recreation, Planning and Development, Police, Public Works, and the Office of the Mayor. Additionally, the committee has representation from the Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO), Bike Delaware, the Delaware Bike Council, the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), the Delaware Transit Corporation (DART), and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) – all of whom are seen as partners in advancing bike initiatives.

BIKE PLAN DOCUMENTS
Wilmington’s bike plan, Moving Us Forward: A Plan for Biking in the City of Wilmington, provides specific recommendations regarding the types of bike infrastructure to be installed in different parts of the city, and the prioritization of projects. This bike plan was completed in the summer of 2019, and replaced the City’s first bike plan, from 2008.
As part of the process to develop the bike plan and think critically about implementation, the Planning staff studied five potential bike infrastructure projects in greater detail. Conceptual designs for these five corridors were developed. The bike plan references these corridor concepts, which are available in their entirety as a separate report.

Priority Corridor Concepts Report Part 2 - February 2019
As part of the research to develop Wilmington’s 2019 Bike Plan, a public survey was conducted to learn about people’s transportation habits and preferences. Due to the amount of data collected, it was not possible to include the raw survey data in the bike plan. Instead, the anonymous data is available for download in Excel format.
BIKE SHARE FEASIBILITY STUDY
Following on the commitment to becoming more bike friendly and making continued bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure investments, the Delaware Department of Transportation and the City of Wilmington secured Century Engineering and Toole Design Group to conduct an analysis of implementing a bike share program in Wilmington.
Bike share is a flexible and convenient transportation and mobility option that allows users to have access to bicycles throughout a community. Bike share systems offer specially designed, durable, and versatile bicycles. A bike share system can be accessed through low-cost passes ranging from a few dollars for a single ride to regular passes that range from $5 to $15 per month. In the last few years, many cities around the U.S. have implemented bike share programs to provide effective transportation options for trips that are too long to walk but too short to drive. Additionally, bike share has become a great complement to other public transportation options including the bus, light and heavy rail as it provides point-to-point first and last mile connections to transit.
