PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The City of Wilmington has created a pilot program to help qualified low-income homeowners address problems with trees on private property. This includes trimming of branches and removal of dead trees. Work will be capped at $6,000.00 per tree with a limit of one tree per applicant. Work will only be performed after the City Arborist inspects the tree and determines that the work is necessary.

A third-party private contractor will perform the work in accordance with the Arborist’s instructions. Funds are limited and will be distributed on a triage basis. Priority will be given to homeowners who have received a citation from the Department of Licenses and Inspections.

If the tree’s branches are touching a wire, the work must be performed by the organization responsible for that wire. Applicants will be referred to Delmarva, Verizon, Comcast, or other responsible utilities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:

Applicants must have a household income of 80 percent of the area median income or less. A chart of qualifying incomes is attached.

  • A Federal 1040 Tax Return Form must be provided.
  • Proof of ownership and primary residence must be provided.
  • If referred by Licenses and Inspections, a copy of the citation must be provided.
  • All Requests Are Subject to Approval by Public Works.
