ACT Generation is a training and development organization, the first of its kind private business and trade school in the State of Delaware. This school specializes in teaching adult students three core concentrations: the latest in audio, communications, and technology. In addition to those, they offer several other professional programs including nine certificate courses including an Introduction to Microsoft Word,digital media, business support, e-commerce drone operation, and the basics of computers and the Internet.

The Adult Education Division (AED)

The Adult Education Division (AED) of the New Castle County Vocational Technical School District offers a wide range of educational programs including 4-Year Degrees for persons interested in retraining, advancement, continuing education, or completion of their high school requirements. Delaware Skills Center

The Delaware Skills Center is an adult vocational technical training center committed to providing skills training that creates a pathway to a rewarding career. (302) 654-5392.

  • Offer courses which prepare students for the world of business and industry by means of intensive training consistent with current educational practices and industry standards.
  • Provide students with course studies along with hands-on training in their related field

Delaware College of Art and Design

DCAD is a college of art and design located in downtown Wilmington, It is a two-year private college offering undergraduate programs and non-degree, part-time continuing education courses to the community.

DCAD was originally founded through a creative partnership between Pratt Institute and the Corcoran College of Art and Design, and now stands independently as a unique AFA Degree program for aspiring artists and designers.  Our program is rigorous, intense and structured. Students are all taught by practicing, professional artists and designers. DCAD students receive one to one support and attention from the heads of the departments, called Area Coordinators.

DCAD's Office of Continuing Education also offers structured Certificate Programs which provide students with the opportunity to accelerate their careers through focused, compact courses that develop the creative and technical skills needed to excel in the areas of Art & Design, Interior Design, Photography, Web Design, Graphic Design and a Combined Certificate in Web & Graphic Design. Requirement: Student must have graduated from a Delaware public or non-public high school with a minimum cumulative average of either 80 or higher on a 100-point scale, a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale as indicated on the student’s official high school transcript, or a letter grade of C+.

*Course fees and books are not covered by the SEED Scholarship.

Generation: Certified Nursing Assistant Program through Jobs for Delaware Grads

Generation is a 9-week program to train Certified Nursing Assistants that:

  • Gives you the skills to succeed as a Nursing Assistant—your entry to a career in the fast-growing healthcare sector
  • Places all qualified graduates in a full-time job
  • Pays a monthly living allowance and help you build skills for long-term career success.

As a Nursing Assistant, you will be on the front line of patient care in hospitals and nursing homes. Nursing Assistants are primarily responsible for personal care which includes getting patients dressed, bathing, and feeding among other tasks. You will also be a crucial link between the patient and the rest of the staff, ensuring patients get the care they need. An experienced professional will mentor you during the program. And when you’re established in your own career, you’ll be asked to come back to mentor new students.

In order to participate in the Generation program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Be currently unemployed or underemployed (less than 40 hours per week)
  • Be authorized to work in the US
  • Be able to lift 40 pounds
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 29 years old
  • Pass a basic literacy and numeracy test
  • Be able to pass a drug screen, medical test, and criminal background check

Generation is a global initiative designed by leading educators and employers, focused on helping driven young adults find good jobs. In Wilmington, the coalition includes Jobs for Delaware Graduates, Delaware Technical Community College, Career Team, Saint Francis Healthcare, Cadia Rehabilitation, and the Delaware Workforce Investment Board.Generation is open to 18-29 year olds who are not currently in full time employment.

ITWorks is an award winning 16-week program that changes lives. ITWorks offers a free, immersive IT training program to young adults (high achieving high school graduates, 18-26, who have not moved on to college). Students receive a professional certification in IT and a real-world internship inside leading corporations and nonprofits. Graduates gain a marketable skill set, improved confidence, leadership abilities, and a broad understanding of the nonprofit community and its interactions. Wilmington University is a private, non-sectarian university which offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of career areas. The University began with a charter class of 194 students in 1968 and now enrolls a diverse student body numbering more than 18,000 annually.

The program of day, evening, and weekend classes serves traditional high school graduates as well as non-traditional adult students in need of flexible scheduling. Classes are primarily offered in 15-week, 7-week, and weekend modular formats. Introduced in 2005, Fusion programs combine online and face-to-face learning. These programs are designed for students who wish to complete their degree in less time than is possible with traditional courses.

Zip Code Wilmington is Delaware’s first coding school, and one of the first nonprofit coding schools in the country. Zip Code Wilmington is: 1) a software development training school in downtown Wilmington 2) an apprenticeship program that launches new careers immediately upon graduation. We give our students an experience that fast-tracks them into a great career, at a great salary, and we do it in under a year. Through alliances with area companies, some of which are household names, we’ve created a world-class curriculum that mirrors the real world. Our teachers have years of experience as professional software developers, ensuring our graduates are ready to step into any software development team and succeed.

Zip Code offers courses in both Java and JavaScript/Python. Both boot camps are 12 intense weeks long. Classes run from 9am-5pm, 5 days a week, but expect to spend as much time as you can at our facility, interacting with mentors and learning with other students. We believe in pair and small-group coding. Our aim is to create an environment that is as close to what you’ll find in the workplace as possible.

Following the in-class training, area companies hire select graduates for direct hire jobs and paid, 26-week apprenticeships. These jobs will be in and around Wilmington, Delaware.
