October 2 - December 15, 2017
It's autumn and that means it is leaf and yard waste collection season in Wilmington.
The Department of Public Works partnered with the 47 civic and neighborhood associations in the city to create a community-oriented collection schedule. Specific days have been designated for each neighborhood during which DPW crews will visit to collect leaves and yard waste.
The City of Wilmington considers the following items yard waste:
- Grass clippings
When the City vacuum trucks are in your community to collect leaves:
- All leaves should be placed in the street next to the curb.
- City sweeper/vacuum trucks will collect the leaves from the street.
When the City vacuum trucks are not in your community to collect leaves:
- All leaves should be bagged and placed at the curb, then call the Public Works Call Center at (302) 576-3878.
- Please use PAPER BAGS so City yard waste collection crews can easily identify your leaves.
To coordinate your fall community or neighborhood leaf pickup for yard waste please refer to this schedule to find out when we are in your neighborhood for expedited pickup services. For additional leaf service after December 9 or for special requests, contact the Public Works Call Center.
Please note that not all city streets can accommodate leaf vacuum service. In those cases, small amounts of leaves should be placed into brown paper bags for manual pickup service by calling the Public Works Call Center.
The Department of Public Works can assist your organization in scheduling community clean-up days. Demonstrate your pride in your community by lending a hand and encouraging your family and neighbors to get involved as well. Clean neighborhood activities make great projects for school, church, and scout programs or for anyone who wants to pitch in and help their community shine.
To sign up, call the Public Works Call Center at (302) 576-3878, or visit reportitresolveit.WilmingtonDE.gov.
Private Trash Collection/ContractorsIn some cases residents with a large volume of leaves will utilize a private contractor to remove or move leaves to the curb. We would request that residents reach out to your contractors as soon as possible and provide them the dates and times of the pickup schedule in your community. This will help to ensure a timely response for pickup if the leaves are ready at the curb. Additionally, leaves blown to the curb after our staff has been in the area would require a special request for service at a later date.
